Iran discussing $10 bln in electricity projects with Russia (Part 2)

Iran is discussing $10 billion worth of electricity projects with Russia, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"We recently discussed, with the Iranian energy minister, a whole package of projects worth nearly $10 billion which could be carried out in electricity. These are for the construction of thermal power plants, the involvement of Russian companies in equipment supplies for thermal plants and the renovation of heat supply networks," he said.

He said the projects would involve building power plants, including heat plants, and networks, and supplying equipment. Iran intends to build 5-6 gigawatts of new capacity. Russia's Technopromexport will play a prominent role in the projects.

"Our companies are hard at work on the specific terms of the contracts," Novak said, adding that the next session of an intergovernmental commission would be held in Teheran in September.

Novak also said Iran planned to develop cooperation with Russia in the nuclear power sphere.
